Alex Maws Joins AJR

AJR are delighted to announce the appointment of Alex Maws as Head of Educational Grants and Projects.  Alex has been working with AJR on an advisory basis since last year and, as we boost our commitment to advancing opportunities for future generations to study and learn about the Holocaust, we are pleased that he has now joined the organisation as a permanent member of staff.

A prominent supporter of Holocaust education and commemoration, the AJR is the largest benefactor of Holocaust educational programmes and projects in the UK.

The AJR also strongly supports many national events such as Yom HaShoah and the Jewish Film Festival as well as several Synagogue Holocaust Memorial Day programmes.  Similarly we educate about our members’ own experiences and their contribution to Britain through various projects and initiatives, including Refugee Voices, our ground-breaking audio-visual testimony archive of over 200 filmed interviews.

Chief Executive Michael Newman said “While we are mindful that AJR’s immediate priority is to support our members through our social welfare work, we are also very much committed to promoting Holocaust education. To enhance this part of our work, I am delighted that Alex Maws, who was previously Head of Education at the Holocaust Educational Trust last week, has joined us.”

Alex, a fellow member along with Michael Newman of the UK delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) said “The field of Holocaust education is at a critical juncture. It’s so important right now to support educational innovation to ensure that this topic remains relevant for future generations, and AJR is in a unique position to take a leading role. I am honoured to have been asked to help AJR move in this direction.”
